Screw conveyor

A screw conveyor is a widely used mechanical material handling device designed to transport bulk solids in a continuous and controlled manner. In boiler ash handling systems , screw conveyors play a vital role in moving hot or cold fly ash and bottom ash from collection points (such as ESP hoppers, bag filters, or furnace ash discharge points) to storage silos, disposal units, or further conveying systems. The working principle of the screw conveyor is based on the rotation of a helical screw blade (flighting) mounted on a central shaft, enclosed within a trough or pipe. As the screw rotates, ash particles are pushed forward due to the combined action of rotational force and friction, ensuring a steady conveying flow. These conveyors are robustly designed to handle abrasive, hot, and fine ash materials generated in boilers. Depending on ash temperature and application, screw conveyors can be manufactured from carbon steel, stainless steel, or special alloy materials with wear-resistant and heat-resistant properties. They can be supplied with cooling jackets, liners, or special coatings to withstand harsh environments. Screw conveyors are highly reliable, occupy less space compared to other conveying methods, and can be installed in horizontal, inclined, or vertical orientations . Their enclosed design minimizes dust emission, contributing to cleaner and safer boiler house environments. Casing available in U-trough or fully enclosed tubular design. Typically designed for 1 TPH to 50 TPH depending on ash load and boiler size.
