A Y-Strainer is a critical filtration device installed in process pipelines for boilers and heaters to ensure smooth, reliable, and safe operation of the system. It is designed in the shape of a “Y” and is primarily used to mechanically remove solid debris such as rust, scale, slag, dirt, or other foreign particles from steam, gas, or liquid pipelines. By preventing unwanted particles from entering pumps, valves, burners, and heat exchangers, the Y-Strainer plays a vital role in protecting equipment, minimizing downtime, and extending service life. In boiler and heater applications, Y-Strainers are widely used in feedwater lines, fuel oil systems, steam pipelines, and condensate return lines. Their compact design allows easy installation in both horizontal and vertical pipelines with minimal pressure drop. The strainer element is generally a perforated or mesh screen made of stainless steel, ensuring durability and resistance to high temperatures and pressures. The blow-off connection allows for convenient cleaning without removing the strainer body from the pipeline. Cast Steel, Cast Iron, Forged Steel, Stainless Steel (as per process fluid and pressure/temperature rating). Stainless Steel perforated sheet or mesh with variable micron ratings (typically 50–200 mesh). Typically from Class 150 to Class 2500 (as per ASME standards).
